OK, I've not actually stayed in this hotel. However, when I was in desperate need of printing something out in the middle of Hammerbrook, they let me email it to them and just did it straight away. Fantastic! They saved me at least 1.5h the next day coming all the way back. So I can't recommend it highly enough!

Ah, the customs office. If you were going to put this house of fun anywhere it'd be Hammerbrook, right?! Just to top of the whole sorry experience.

I was actually in here 2 months ago when they'd just handily returned my lens to Korea because I couldn't come and pick it up in time.

This time I came right away, armed with my passport and the eBay receipt on my phone. Sorry, printed copies only mate! After waiting 20 minutes! I left in disgust, but returned triumphantly 5 minutes later with a print out for free from the local hotel! System beaten, we left never to return again!

I would have to second Primate's review, Rosi's is a seriously good club. Very dark, very dirty, and that's just the drumnbass... You will have a great time here.

Qype: El Lazo in Düsseldorf

Decent quality steak house in Düsseldorf Aldstadt, on Bolkerstrasse which is home to one or two restaurants! The portions were generous, and the pepper sauce and chips nice too. Filet steak weighs in at €19.90, with draught beer at €2 a go.

Until such time as these bastards let me in, I'm giving them one star. We queued for an hour at 7am and got turned away at the last, in a group of... 2 people. And the worst thing, it makes me want to go back even more.

If you'd had no joy here, I would recommend walking over to Rosi's instead, where you have no such problems.

Qype: Elysee St Honore in Paris

I've been ripped off in Paris a few times, so you'd think we'd be wise to it now, but no. In an attempt to get a quick bite to eat before going out, we opting for a small friendly-looking bistro rather than the upmarket restaurant across the road, not wishing to blow €40 a head on dinner. There was no menu, so we ordered from the waiter who read out what was on offer, without prices of course.

The food was fairly dreadful, overcooked, chewy, and served worryingly quickly. And what had we paid? €30 for 3 tiny lamb chops, and 2 beers for €18! Oh dear, oh dear. Please don't make the same mistake as us.

Qype: La Voute in London

Fantastic little cafe/restaurant which is in something like the 'mediterranean fusion' genre of things. Breakfast in the garden out back is particularly pleasant, and we had an assortment of goats cheese filo parcels and other tasty treats. Great service and reasonably priced too. Highly recommended if you're in Archway.

Qype: Le Saint Séverin in Paris

Pleasant little bar/restaurant which has outdoor seating in a little square by the church, which is a good start. Prices are surprisingly reasonable, and although the food won't blow you away, it's not that bad either. I wouldn't rush back here, but you don't need to avoid it either.

Set about 100m back from the beach, and in its own walled gardens, the Shangri La is OK. It's definitely better to stay in one of the wooden chalets outside, but also more expensive. A double room inside without A/C will set you back Rs. 1000, but, you do get what you pay for, and here is no exception. It's run by an Aussie so I guess it would have been good value during the recent Ashes series...

Qype: Empire of Döner in Hamburg

Eating a döner kebab at lunch. One of the many things in life you really shouldn't do, but lunch choices are slightly limited close to the customs office in this part of town.

The last time this happened to me I was in the Hauptbahnhof spitting bits of foil out over a bin, Andrew looking on unimpressed. Empire of Döner has slightly nicer surroundings with a ornamental shopping trolley in the beer garden by the railway tracks of Berliner Tor.

The delicious rolls will set you back €3.80 a pop, and had I had 10 beers beforehand, surely, I would have enjoyed it.

Solid bar in Prenzlauerberg to warm up in. Cheap as chips with the Augustina barometer set at €2.50! Late twenties crowd and minimal beats.
